Hi Weiren,

Wow, it seems like we have almost similar interests -- dance. Oh and its awesome to know that you had a part to play in the choreography of the Rag Dance! I thought it was really good. Kudos!

Camp facilitator in the zoo sounds like a whole lot of fun. What kind of camps do you facilitate? What are your main duties? I'd love to know!

Hi Weiren,

I have always wanted to participate in rag you know! And as a dancer! To be frank I have 4 years of experience in all sorts of dance, modern, contemporary, Chinese, ballet etc. But I lost touch for many years already. That's why I thought I would try rag dance as I am still very passionate about dancing! However, the past few holidays I was always caught up with either some major projects or work such that I was never able to participate in it. It's one of my greatest regret in NUS!

And your volunteer work in the Zoo sounds awesome! Can I join you?! Haha I would really love to. Too bad I got to know it really late. Maybe when I am back from US and you're still doing that, I can join you!

Hi Lyon,

That's terrible! To be honest, if you enjoy dance, I strongly recommend you to join NUS Dance Synergy. I was with them for a semester, before my other 2 CCAs bogged me down with the amount of attention they demand.

Oh definitely! The Singapore Zoo do seek out volunteers on a regular basis. You can check out the Zoo's websites for details.

It's will definitely be a very enriching experience and i look forward to seeing you in the zoo soon!

Hi Tiffany,

I do enjoy dance. To be honest, I did not pick up dance voluntarily. I was forced into it and gradually, it grew into an interests.

I am glad you enjoyed the dance.

As a camp facilitator, I was given the task to handle a class of primary 4 children and bring them to various aspects of the zoo, many of which are out-of-bound to normal visitors. I bring them to where the zookeepers take care of the animals and sometimes take small animals and insects to let the kids feel it.

It's a very rewarding part-time job. That's probably why I still make an effort to go, despite school.

Thanks for the comment

Cheers.

Hi Weiren,

being a dancer choreographer must have been tough. I joined rag dance in my freshman year and I still remembered how stressed out the choreographer was, as it was a great responsibility.

I think i have mentioned to you once that my friend used to work at Night Safari as the host for tram rides(I think). We are going to the Halloween event in Night Safari. Yah!
Did you go, or will you be going?

Yu Ming,

I don't if it's me being confused, but I thought Wei Ren is in Life Science and not Engineering????

Oxy,

I have been to both Night Safari and Zoo for a few times and I personally feel that the zoo is much more fun! Though the night show at Night Safari was really funny. Since we are at this heated topic about being a zoologist, why don't we organise a trip to the zoo after exams?!?! I would love to go to the zoo zoo zoo, you can come too too too~~~

Hi Oxy,

It is indeed quite an experience being a choreographer. However, if you treat as an exercise,a chance to sharpen basic skill and impart your love for dance with others, it's definitely worth the pain of going through.

Yes, you did. I doubt I will be heading for the halloween tram ride. In fact, I am bring kids from Rosyth School soon, so maybe I might get to take it for free. *Keeping my fingers crossed*

Thanks for your comment.

Dear Yu Ming,

Lyon is right. I am from Life Science. So technically, the zoo part isn't as surprising.

My interests in art and the arts began in secondary school. I enjoyed certain art movement which led me to read on and in the end, went on to study them when I have time at my disposal.

Many of my friends called me a hybrid when I was in school because they never could have thought that a person can love science and art(s) at the same time.

Da Vinci would have been heartbroken if he have heard that.

Lyon:

Haha. I can volunteer to be you guy's guide.

Dear Weiren,

You really don't sound like a science person, yet you are studying life science. An amazing hybrid! Hahaa.. Anyway, your biodata is interesting! I would love to volunteer in the zoo as well! But final year is so busy that I doubt there will be any spare time, especially next year :(

Anyway, I think your commitments are great! Very enriching life, you have :)

Hi Angeline,

It is certainly not too late to join at any age. I personally know a few volunteers (and part timers) who are currently holding another job outside the zoo AND within the zoo.

Most importantly, it is to love what you do. Hope to see you around soon!

Cheers

This is great, and I really admire your desire to work at the zoo, Weiren. However, I would add a statement or two about my learning in life science.

Thanks, man, for your hard work!

I will work on it.

Thanks!
